Prototypes from Winter Quarter, 2000 Prototypes from Spring Quarter, 2001
The original Mindfrog diagram which showed a high-level understanding of the approach required to successfully complete a telepresence hardware platform. A
more sophisticated diagram accounting for the several layers of technology
and hardware required to complete a telepresence hardware platform. A diagram of the stereoscopic video and binaural audio capture device. An overall diagram of the "telepresence" platform built by Mindfrog.
"Solar Shields" with 2 Black and White Cameras used to capture mindrogs first stereo video.
First Head Mounted Display or HMD (from a Tokyo Toy Store) used to view Mindfrog's stereo video. We combined 2 units' LCD's into one shell to have 2 independant video feeds viewed simultaneously in one HMD. Winter 2000 These glasses also came from a toy store and were modified to hold 2 color cameras. These glasses digitally captured Mindfrog's first color stereoscopic video with binaural audio.
Mindfrog's final set of glasses look awkward, but allow for adjustments of focal length and use high resolution color camera's in conjunction with the final pair of condensor type binaural microphones. The 2 video signals are multiplexed into a single interlaced video signal by a multiplexer Mindfrog built using designs found through extensive video research. These "shutter glasses" complete Mindfrog's final prototype for their project. These glasses de-multiplex the interlaced video signal sending one video stream to the left eye and the other to the right. By presenting each eye with one camera's video Mindfrog can mimic human vision. Mindfrog's work has culminated in a lightweight portable wireless stereoscopic streaming media device. Siggi is demoing the unit and could stream his sterescopic video and binaural audio experience to the Internet as long as is within 100-300 ft of a wirless LAN access point.
